Dental Implants

Millions of Americans suffer from tooth loss each year, limiting their dental function and impacting their self-confidence.

At Jersey City Dental, we are proud to offer a superior form of tooth restoration with dental implants.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants replace and restore the entire structure of a missing or severely damaged tooth. Implants are small posts that act as artificial tooth roots. These posts are made from biocompatible materials that fuse with the jawbone. Our practice uses titanium implants and zirconia implants.

Once the dental implants have fused with the bone, the implants provide a durable, stable, foundation for a custom-made restoration, such as a crown, bridge, or denture. Implant-supported restorations bring back both the appearance and function of your smile.

How Are Implants Placed?

Our Jersey City dentists begin by making an opening in your gums. This allows them a place to secure your implants, and later, the abutments and cosmetic restoration. Abutments can attach options like crowns and bridges.

What Benefits Do Dental Implants Provide? They...

Offer Maximum Stability

Implants are the most secure option for tooth restoration, fusing with your jaw to provide the next best thing to a natural tooth. Unlike traditional forms of restoration, they are fixed in place for maximum stability and convenience.

Prevent Bone Recession

Tooth loss actually causes bone recession when the missing roots no longer provide stimulation to the jaw. Because implant posts replace the tooth roots, they can halt bone loss and even help patients maintain a more youthful facial structure.

Enhance Your Appearance

While dental implants are not considered cosmetic dentistry, they deliver a beautiful smile you'll be happy to share. When you take greater confidence in your smile, the people around you will notice. Implants allow our dentists to restore missing teeth and create a secure, natural-looking smile.

Provide a Long-Lasting Solution

Dental implants themselves can last decades or even a lifetime.  The prosthetics that attach to implants can last for decades with proper maintenance. Many dental patients find their longevity makes them a worthy investment.

Visit a Dental Practice That Puts You First

Living with tooth loss or decay can be isolating. Sadly, many patients who do not feel confident in their smiles may shy away from activities they once loved, like smiling in public or trying delicious foods. They may even avoid photos or events.

If this sounds familiar, we can help. Our caring dental team works hard to put you first by explaining your options thoroughly. Not to mention, we also accept financing, bringing you one step closer to the smile you've been missing.

We even offer Saturday hours by appointment as well as free video consults, so that you can enjoy healthy teeth on your own timeline. If you're ready to see if you're a dental implants candidate, contact our Jersey City dentistry practice or call

This place is unreal. We’re talking about a Dentist office here. Historically, I’ve had the most traumatic experiences with Dentists as it can get. I came to this office to see Dr.Paek for the first time and was referred to him by my brother. I was terrified to go given it’s been as while due to the pandemic. When I walked in I thought I was in the wrong office because it’s so beautiful and modern inside! Never met such nice front desk personnel and staff, everyone was super helpful and very empathetic. My appointment itself couldn’t have gone any smoother and the best part? DIDN’T HURT (had to get a hefty procedure done) and I have extremely sensitive teeth. They have massage chairs while working on your teeth, piña colada numbing cream not that disgusting weird dirty mint flavor that gives you headaches, flat screen tv right in front of you to watch, accepts almost all insurance and the best smiles all around. I highly recommend this Dentist Office believe me you won’t regret it.

I always have a great experience at Dr Paek’s office.

I give them a hard time at every turn, and believe me I am a tough customer!

My hygienist Jessica is top notch, thorough and yet super gentle and always informative, all of which is obviously extremely important.

Dr. Paek I give the worst time of all…. But I wouldn’t have anyone else doing work on my teeth.

He’s just super smart and knows the issues and how to solve them asap. I feel like my mouth and gums health are in good hands. Highly recommend him to all my family and friends.

What are my options to restore missing teeth with implants?

Two Types of Dental Implants

In addition to different implant restorations, our practice uses two different types of implants to support crowns, bridges, and dentures. We can discuss the right type of implant for your needs during the consultation process.

Titanium Implants

Titanium is a traditional implant material, boasting a high success rate for osseointegration. Many patients will wind up with titanium implants given their long history of effectiveness.

Zirconia Implants

A newer implant option, Zirconia dental implants are good for patients who'd prefer a metal-free approach to dentistry. Zirconia is tooth-colored, which eliminates aesthetic flaws at the gumline.

Dental Implant Treatment Timeline

Here is a general outline for implant treatment at our Jersey City, NJ, dental practice. Before treatment begins, our dentists will use a 3D cone beam scanner to determine bone density and identify the ideal locations for implants. Your dentists may also design surgical guides or use computer-guided technology to position your implant during surgery for optimum placement, which promotes long-lasting results.

Implant Posts

Your oral surgeon will create a small opening in the gum to access the jaw in order to place your dental implants. The doctor then carefully embeds the titanium post (or posts) into the jawbone, before closing the incision with sutures.

Osseointegration

Once your dental implants have been placed, you may be provided with a temporary restoration to wear during recovery. This healing process, in which the titanium or zirconia implants fuse with your jawbone, is known as osseointegration. It typically takes between three to six months for the posts to osseointegrate and become a permanent part of your smile.

Abutments

After you have fully recovered, you return for a minor follow-up procedure. The dentist attaches abutment pieces to each of the dental implants. These abutments provide a connection point for the restoration to the implant posts.

Digital Impressions

To design your final prosthesis, our team at Jersey City Dental will take impressions of your bite using advanced CEREC technology. This state-of-the-art system allows us to take detailed digital scans, so patients can avoid the messy and unpleasant traditional impression process. With the CEREC milling machine, we can custom design and place certain restorations in a single appointment.

Securing Restoration

Our Jersey City practice works with a trusted dental laboratory to create a lasting, customized restoration in less than one week. Once it is complete, you will return to the dentist's office to secure your restoration and make any final adjustments.

Bone Grafting for Dental Implants

Tooth loss can lead to bone atrophy over time. This occurs because the jawbone no longer has a tooth to support, which causes the bone to deteriorate from lack of use. If you've experienced major bone loss, you will need to get a bone graft before you can get dental implants.

The Bone Graft Procedure

Bone grafting adds hard tissue to the jawbone to restore its density. This bone can be harvested from a donor site from the patient's own body. We can also use bone from a bone bank or synthetic bone graft materials depending on your needs.

Sinus Lift

In addition to traditional bone grafting, a sinus lift may be performed for dental implants placed in the back of the upper arch. This procedure repositions the sinus membrane and adds bone to the area so implants can fuse with it and create a solid foundation for the restoration.

Added Treatment Time

/

Bone graft patients will need a few months to heal from their procedure before implants can be placed. This will add several months to the overall dental implant treatment time.

Your New Dental Implants Can Last a Lifetime

Worried about having to replace your dental implants? That may not ever be necessary.

One of the best benefits of dental implants is their longevity. For many patients, implants can last a lifetime, provided they are cared for properly.

Of course, crowns, bridges, and other cosmetic dental restorations attached to the abutments will need to be replaced periodically, but even these can last for decades with good care.

How do I take care of my dental implants?

Dental Implant Maintenance

Maintaining your dental implants is not much different than caring for your natural teeth. Our tips to ensure a healthy implant include:

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

Without proper oral hygiene, your implants can develop complications or become infected. Brush twice daily with non-abrasive toothpaste and floss at least once a day

Use an Oral Irrigator

An oral irrigator, also known as a water flosser, helps clean hard-to-reach areas around the gums and remove particles stuck between teeth.

Attend Regular Check-Ups

Make sure to schedule regular dental appointments. Your dentist can clean areas you are unable to access and routinely check the health of your implants.
