An older man with a complete smile

Dentures

Significant tooth loss can take a serious toll on your daily life, making it challenging to eat comfortably and speak properly.

The talented team at our Jersey City, NJ, practice can replace several missing teeth or an entire dental arch, with dentures.

Discover how treatment at Jersey City Dental can restore function and beauty to your smile!

The Many Benefits of Dentures

Improve Function

Missing teeth cause people to limit their diet due to impaired dental function. Dentures allow patients to eat the foods they like and speak with clarity. They are made from strong restorative materials and can last a decade or longer.

Restore Oral Health

Restorative dentistry can address oral health conditions such as periodontal disease, bone loss, and tooth loss. Dentures supported by dental implants prevent bone loss in the jaw by replacing your natural tooth roots, making this a superior option.

Enhance Your Appearance

Tooth loss can negatively impact the beauty of your smile and cause an aged, gaunt facial appearance. Dentures are a natural-looking form of tooth replacement and they can fill out your facial features for a youthful appearance.

Boost Your Confidence

Do you find yourself avoiding pictures and covering your mouth when you speak? When you replace your teeth with partial, full, or implant-supported dentures, you will feel confident and proud to show off your smile.

Minimize Wear on Remaining Teeth

If you have remaining natural teeth, the force of your bite will be uneven, causing excessive wear on those teeth. Dentures restore balance to your bite, correctly distributing the force among all teeth.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are natural-looking prostheses designed to replace missing teeth. Jersey City Dental offers implant-supported, partial, and complete dentures for patients who qualify.

Partial dentures are appropriate for people who have healthy natural teeth remaining in the upper or lower jaw, while full or complete dentures replace an entire dental arch.

Dental implants give more support and can be used with both partial and full dentures.

Dentures Address All Types of Tooth Loss

Whether you are missing a few or all of your teeth, dentures can restore function to your smile. Watch as a partial denture fills in large gaps between teeth.

Traditional vs. Implant-Supported Dentures

Depending on your needs and preferences, we can provide implant-supported or traditional removable restorations to patients from Hoboken and surrounding areas. Learn more about your options.
Traditional dentures

Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures rest on the gums and stay in place through suction and a denture adhesive. They are custom-made to fit your smile with your choice of restorative materials. Traditional dentures are removable and require daily maintenance, but are generally more affordable than implant-supported alternatives. Traditional denture treatment does not require surgery, so we can design, fit, and craft your permanent restoration in a shorter period of time.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are fixed in place, connected to surgically installed dental implants. Titanium implant posts are inserted into your jaw in place of your missing tooth roots. Implant posts provide security and stability, so you never have to worry about your restoration shifting out of place when you eat or speak. Implant-supported dentures also improve your overall oral health by preventing bone recession caused by tooth loss. Implant-supported dentures look virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth and gums and can last for decades with proper care.

We Use High-Quality Materials

Typically, full dentures are made of an acrylic base and porcelain or resin teeth. Partial dentures generally consist of a gum-colored plastic base, porcelain teeth, and small metal clasps. However, we also offer DuraFlex™ for those who prefer premium, flexible partial dentures. These prosthetics are composed of a state-of-the-art thermoplastic material that is easy to adjust and provides superior aesthetics.

Procedure Timeline

At Jersey City Dental, we strive to make the denture process as quick and convenient as possible while maintaining the high-quality standards our patients know and expect from us.

Treatment length depends on the type of denture you get and if you need tooth extraction or other procedures.

At Jersey City Dental, we strive to make the denture process as quick and convenient as possible while maintaining the high-quality standards our patients know and expect from us.

Preparation

If you decide to proceed with implant-supported restorations, we can recommend an experienced, conveniently located oral surgeon to place your dental implants. With traditional dentures, we may need to perform other preparatory procedures such as extractions to create a strong and solid foundation for your restoration. Your jaw and gums will be given time to heal after extraction or implant surgery before treatment continues.

Impressions

Implant patients will need a few months to recover from surgery. The implant posts will fuse with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. Traditional denture candidates can proceed with impressions much sooner. After you recover from preparatory work, we take digital impressions of your mouth and design your denture.

Denture Construction

Your 3D scans and custom design will be sent to our trusted dental laboratory. Your denture will be manufactured out of your chosen materials. They will then be sent back to our Jersey City practice within about a month.

Test Fit

In some cases, the lab will send us a wax mold of your denture to test for positioning and fit. We can make any corrections and adjustments on the test model and return it for alternations. This ensures a proper fit and maximum comfort.

Denture Placement

Once your final restorations are ready, you can return to our office to ensure proper fit. Our dentist can make any final adjustments and instruct you on proper use and maintenance. For implant patients, the restoration will be attached to the titanium implant posts and stay fixed in place.

It is normal to have several adjustment appointments following the initial placement to ensure that you are completely comfortable with your dentures. These appointments will be scheduled as needed. If you experience any discomfort, it is important to communicate with our dentists so we can make adjustments and eliminate potential gum irritation and pain.

How Much Do Dentures Cost?

There are many factors that determine the cost of dentures, and the cost will vary by patient. Once your dentist examines you, he or she can determine the best course of treatment that will fit your needs and budget. Factors that can affect the cost include:

  • Type of Dentures - Complete dentures will cost more than partials simply because they require more time and material to create.
  • Additional Procedures - Additional procedures such as extractions, bone graft, or implants will impact the overall cost of your dentures. Dental implants require surgery and high-quality materials, and it will cost more than traditional dentures.
  • Insurance Coverage - Insurance coverage may cover all or part of your denture treatment. However, it varies based on your plan and provider.
